FAQ
#1: Unusual General Protection Errors
Question:
I seem to get GPE's when working with Stitch Painter.
Answer:
Currently, the 'main' reason these occur is due to an incompatibility
between the speed of your computer in relation to the video driver.
Computers these days are getting so fast that video drivers are
having a tough time keeping up to them. Typical symptoms would be:
- GPE's
when you move brushes
- GPE's
when you close windows
- GPE's
when you quit the program.
The solution is to turn down acceleration on you computer. This
should help Stitch Painter and other software you might be having
problems with. To turn down acceleration, do the following:
- Double
click on My Computer
- Double-click
on Control Panels
- Double-click
on System
- Click
on the Performance tab.
- Click
on the Graphics button.
- Move
the acceleration slider down to '0'
- Click
on OK and click on OK again.
- Restart
the computer and see if the problem goes away. If it does, you
can start working the acceleration up to see at what level you
can run the software.
Fortunately,
someone at Microsoft told us about this, and it seems to solve nearly
any Windows 95, 98, ME and 2000 problems that we've had.
Other
symptoms that it solves are:
- Blank
toolbox
- GPE's
when you move a brush on the screen
Answer:
If you get GPE's when closing windows, and acceleration doesn't
work, you may need to get a newer version of the software from us.
This tends to happen to people who have newer computers and who
are using less than version 2.2d6. To determine which version you
have, within Stitch Painter, hold down the Shift key and choose
the About Stitch Painter option from the Help men. We have a 32
bit version available that solves the GPE problems, acceleration
does not. Please email us with your name, address, software, version,
platform and serial number. If you purchased from a dealer, we will
need the dealer's name
