Cool Totes

Overview:
Cool Totes and Bags is a new product by Cochenille that features collections of 6 totes/bags based on themes. The first two collections released in late February 2003. Other collections are in development.

You can purchase Cool Totes in one of two ways:
1. As a stand-alone program, which means you don't need Garment Designer to run the software.
2. As a plug-in to Garment Designer, which means you can edit the tote styles, save files, etc.

Using the Stand-alone is simple. Choose a Tote style, choose a size (small, medium or large), add seam allowances, scale to actual size and print.

Using the Plug-in is essentially the same as using a Style Set. Once installed, you will see a new Category (Totes), and you will then see the appropriate style and size menus for totes.

A PDF manual is included with each collection. This contains the 'how-to's on using the program, and sewing instructions plus knitting and crochet how-to's.

Couture Tote Collections
Currently, there are two collections available. You may purchase both collections for $30.00.

Collection 1
Bow Tie A simple one-piece bag consisting of the main body and extended arms which create a tie by passing through a loop of self-fabric. A zipper is inserted into the top of the bag. It may be decorative or hidden. Lining is optional.
Jean Skirt The Jean Skirt is a lined box-style tote that features a fly front panel with curved pocket insets. This panel is laid over a flat body to create a pocket across the entire front. A waistband with belt loops is attached to finish the top of the tote. A long lined strap creates the bottom and sides of the tote and becomes the shoulder strap as it narrows to the top. All trimming is sewn with bias tape facing. This may be purchased or you can make your own. An optional loop and button close the top of the tote.
Overall Bib A lined structured tote that features common details of overalls, including a patch pocket with flap, clips, D-rings and attached straps. The front pocket is dimensional and is thus, a bit of a challenge to construct. A simple slot pocket is applied to the back of the tote. A shaped side panel joins the front and back, and piping trim is used to finish the seam allowance that is exposed. A commercial web strap is joined to the body of the tote with plastic clips and D-rings.
Peasant Top The Peasant Top tote is an easy-to-construct lined tote featuring a rectangular base that is gathered on all four ends. The sides are gathered by the strap handles and the top of the totes is gathered by drawstrings. Self-fabric corded straps add a nice touch to the look of the tote.
Scoop Neck The Scoop Neck tote is composed of a body and inner pocket. The outer body is cut in one piece and the bottom is created by stitching a mitered seam. Handle grips are slipped over the edges of the straps and top-stitched in place. The inner pocket is optional and is rectangular in shape. It is attached to the sides of the tote body and closes with a zipper in the top.
Tank Top The Tank Top tote is a simple-to-construct tote that features long attached straps, a mitered bottom and rounded shaping at the top. This self-lined bag can easily be made reversible with the right choice of fabrics. A pocket is sewn to the front lining of the tote. Straps may be knotted or tied in various ways, or you may choose to utilize a buckle, button or snap closure.
Collection II
Blouse A lined, structured tote that features the common details of a woman's blouse, including button placket, patch pockets and 2-piece collar. The front of the tote buttons over the back in the 'shoulder area'. A self-fabric strap surrounds the tote creating the bottom, side panels and shoulder straps of the bag.
Cowl A simple unlined tote that is cut wider at the top than the bottom and has a deep self-facing that drapes in a cowl manner on the sides. The pocket is attached in a manner that mimics a cowl effect. The straps may be cut at different lengths to achieve varying looks. Cut them long to allow for tying at the top. Cut them shorter for a more tailored look.
Halter A lined, long tote with straps that extend from the body to create ties. This forms the shoulder straps of the bag. The bottom of the bag is circular in shape. This style may be made with two different fabrics for a colorful look. Knit or crochet versions may be left unlined.
Plunge Neck The Plunge Neck tote is a lined tote with a mitered bottom. It features a deep V 'neckline' that dips in the center front and back. A separate pouch-like pocket is stitched into the tote at the sides and is gathered at center front with drawstrings. This simulates a modesty piece or dickey. The straps of the tote button at the top.
Ruffle The Ruffle tote is a simple-to-construct tote composed of a round bottom and rectangular sides. Cords are threaded through a sewn casing, and when the cords are drawn the ruffle effect is created. This self-lined bag can easily be made reversible with the right choice of fabrics.
Surplice An unlined tote that simulates the crisscross surplice bodice style. The angled pattern is cut and sewn so that the overlap of the pieces forms a self-pocket. Fold-over extensions create a slot for the wooden handles that are used to hold the tote.
