Enchanted Knitting

Sally Melville Styles by Sally Melville

According to the author, Sally Melville, this book began as a solution to a problem that all knitters share.
Yarn - too little to do anything with, too much to toss. What to do with a growing collection of yet-to-knit yarns? Sally Melville found creative solutions to these problems. For this book she developed knitting stitch patterns that are enhanced by a combination of colors, textures, and weights. Sally had a great time exploring, designing with, and working through her yarn stash. And you can too.
From 'good ol' garter stitch' to 'knitting as warp', Sally's innovative techniques and clear, concise instructions for 27 projects take knitters through the entire process from choosing colors to meticulous finishing. Her hands-on, low-risk, high-return approach lets everyone get creative.

Susan wrote an article on how to use motifs from the Enchanted Knitting book to design and create a knit pillow top. This article is featured in the January/February 1998 Issue of Machine Knitter's Source magazine, where Susan is a staff writer and authors the Design Line column. Cochenille carries copies of this publication, or feel free to contact the publisher, Fiber Circle Publishing, email:mksource@flash.net for info.

In her article, Susan walks you step-by-step, through the process of choosing motifs, planning a pillow top, and designing the pillow on the computer. Below you can see some of the sample files Susan used in her article to explain how she makes her design decisions.

...."having all the motifs on disk made my life incredibly easy, as all I had to do was load the files into Stitch Painter and begin stamping them in place as I experimented.. what a joy!"..... says Susan.
