Our retreat will combine four days exploring Lyon with workshop time both in Lyon and at Valsonne\, and use of space and the creative services of Label Graine. DESCRIPTION:Italy Fashion\, Craft\, and Food Retreat\nVerona\, Italy\nOctober 11-20\, 2023 \nWe have one remaining opening on this Retreat! \n \nSusan has been going to Verona since 2007 and has developed a sense for Italian fashion\, food\, and lifestyle. In fact\, she has recently purchased a second home there and will host events at her apartment. \nSusan has established contacts with various artists\, designers\, stores\, museums\, and food-related businesses. This year\, our 2023 retreat\, centered in Verona\, will include day-trips to Venice and Vicenza (or Milan or Padua). It will begin at dinner time on October 10th (the day of arrival) and ends the morning of the October 19th with a farewell coffee.  Maximum group size is 7 persons. \nFashion\, Crafts\, Food… \nThis year\, we have added more emphasis on mini-workshops; some with locals and some with Susan. Topics will revolve around hand-techniques with fiber (Nuno felting)\, dyeing/printing (either Shibori or printing)\, sustainable design projects\, and more. In addition\, we will have fashion appointments that include visits to artisans\, fabric and yarn stores\, designers\, and a knitting mill. There will be two out-of-town trips. As always\, we will also take a trip to Venice to explore its sights and items related to fashion. \nWe hope to attend an event call Abilmente (the Salon of Creative Ideas) which is in Vicenza\, and features exhibits\, workshops\, and vendors. Their Fall dates have not yet been announced. Are you tired of making sewn garments or knit/crochet garments that don’t work for you? This online webinar/workshop gives you tools that may help you avoid those disappointments and give you confidence in your choices. \nThis is a three-meeting workshop. The first two meetings are lecture/information webinars. There is a two week gap for students to prepare their capsule wardrobe and email it to Susan who will prepare a PowerPoint to share. The third meeting will involve looking at the various wardrobe plans and discussing. It is not required that you submit a capsule wardrobe but we encourage you to build one. Watching other students capsules will also be a learning experience. \nAll sessions will be recorded with the ability to watch later. \nOverview:\nFirst\, you will be instructed on how to do a self-analysis to help you take a fresh look at your body proportions and facial shape. Then\, you will learn how to use line and design to play up your positive features and play down others. So\, we return to Cimarron\, New Mexico and the 100-year-old inn we have grown to love. \nThe goal of our retreat this year will focus on working with Garment Designer and the creation of patterns for Knits\, either for sewing commercial yardage fabrics or for hand or machine knitting. How should one change the pattern? How does the fabric or yarn direct you? We will focus on body measurements and developing a good knit base. In addition\, we will discuss various knitting and sewing techniques specific to garments and knits. \nUsing Garment Designer\, you will learn how to change up necklines\, armhole/sleeve styles\, and add various extra options such as collars\, cuffs\, pockets\, and more. You will learn how to use a reference garment which will aid you in determining how much ease you like in your T-shirts as well as the typical neck widths/depths and armhole depth\, etc. \nYou will see the basic process of drafting the pattern in Garment Designer\, how to print out the pattern\, join the pattern pieces and then cut out and sew the garment.
