2019 Fall Garment Designer Workshop – Dress it Up!

2019 Fall Garment Designer Workshop

Cochenille Design Studio is planning our annual Fall Workshop. Save the date for November 1st to 3rd San Marcos, California!

If you are interested in this workshop please contact us at info@cochenille.com to have your name added to our interested list. You will receive updates and details pertaining to this workshop.

The goal of our Garment Designer Fall retreat this year will focus on creating a simple pattern of your choice and dressing it up.

For this workshop we will be keeping the garment style simple so we can explore the use of extra details such as pockets, collars, bands etc. to create a design that is unique to you.

Software creator and Professor of Fashion, Susan Lazear, will be pulling inspiration from current fashions and trends to help guide you as you use Garment Designer to create a new custom garment.

We will also be taking a day to explore some design inspiration and shopping around San Diego.

Warmest Regards!

Inspiration Top used as my starting point for my new Garment Designer pattern.
Inspiration Top used as my starting point for my new Garment Designer pattern.

It’s time to make a pattern!! One of my favorite things in my creative world, is to figure out how to make patterns using Garment Designer. I’m constantly looking at clothing and analyzing it in my mind to determine what styles I would choose withing the software to create a pattern.

Here you can see a purple fleece garment. The design detail that caught my eye was the curved princess seam. Isn’t it great!

So, into Garment Designer I go, to see if I can make the program sing for me.  Basically, I maneuvered the princess seam lines, with the curve control points to get the curve swing I wanted to mimic the top’s style. I also moved a few points around, but it looks like I’m good to go!!

Here is my result.
