FAQ #1: Why Security?
Question:
Why do we have security?
Answer:
The investment in this version of Garment Designer was great. Cochenille
is very dedicated to growing the program and already has a list
of features for the 'next' version. In order to guarantee future
development, it was decided to use security on the software to ensure
that everyone who uses it has officially purchased it.
FAQ #2: How does security work?
Question:
How does the security process work?
Answer:
Each user is issued a security code which allows you to use the
software to run on 1 computer. In version 2.0, there is a single
installer which installs both the security lock and the program.
In version 1 there was 2 separate installer, one for security, and
one for Garment Designer itself. As upgrades, etc., for Designer
are issued, you generally will not need to change the security code.
The security process registers you as a user of the software and
ties the software to your computer. You may change computers by
simply uninstalling and reinstalling the security lock. Internet
access makes the security install fast and convenient. If you do
not have an Internet connection, we can assist you with the install
over the phone.
FAQ
#3: How does security work?
Question:
What is the password used for?
Answer:
You will need to create a password and hint during your initial
install (version 2.0). Write these down in your install manual.
During an uninstall, you are asked for your password.
FAQ
#4: Losing the security lock
Question:
How can one lose the security lock?
Answer:
The security lock (called Garment Designer Lock) is placed in your
Windows System folder (Windows) or the Extensions folder (Mac).
You can always check to see that it is there. The only thing that
should cause you to lose your lock is reformating a hard drive.
If you know you need to do this, uninstall the security code first
(see the Install manual), then perform your reformatting. Copying
the file to a new location (on a different device/drive) and moving
it back will not work, as the security process knows when a file
has been moved off the drive. You may move the lock elsewhere on
the same drive, and move it back to its intended location, but you
cannot copy it to a different device/drive. If you do crash you
system, you will need to contact Cochenille and perform a telephone
unlock.
FAQ
#5: Installing Garment Designer 2.0.... the password
Question:
Why doesn't Garment Designer 2 recognize my password?
Answer:
There seems to be a glitch in the security software we use, that
results in the password not being remembered (for some people).
Once you have uninstalled version 1 and are reinstalling version
2, if the installer doesn't like your password, leave it blank and
continue the processThis works.
FAQ
#6: Installing Garment Designer 2.0.... Mac issues
Question:
The installer won't run from my CD?
Answer:
If for some reason you get an error when running the installer from
the CD, move the installer file to you desktop, and run it from
there.
