FAQ
#1: Less than a full palette of colors
Question:
I
don't get a full palette of colors in the working palette. Why not?
Answer:
You
probably do not have your computer set up to display 256 colors
in 640 x 480 resolution. Check this by going into Windows, and determining
which driver is current. (see sidebar). Scroll through the options
in your Display field to determine if you have a 256 VGA 640 x 480
mode for your brand of graphics adapter. If one exists, click on
this to make it your current setting. Click OK to exit and save
the setting. Restart the computer to have this mode become active.

FAQ
#2: General Protection Errors
Question:
I
get a lot of General Protection Errors when I work with zooming
or with brushes.
OR My
grid shifts in strange ways, and the stitches don't line up with
the grid.
Answer:
Dependent upon which version of Stitch Painter you have, you may
simply need to update to the 32-bit version. Contact Cochenille
at techsupport@cochenille.com
Answer:
Your
graphics driver is not happy. Stitch Painter is very demanding on
graphics drivers, as we use paint, draw, paint/draw functions more
than most programs on the market. We often surface driver problems.
Contact the manufacturer of your VGA card to determine if there
is a newer version of their Windows driver available. Installing
this usually fixes the problem. If the new driver does not fix the
problem, then you need to let us know so that we may contact the
manufacturer and work with them.
Answer:
Try
switching to the 16 color mode and see if this mode behaves better.
You may need to do this until you get a new driver from the manufacturer.
FAQ
#3: Strange happenings on the screen as I work.
Question:
When
I scroll the grid 'smears' on the screen.
OR
My toolbox is blank.
OR
When I move a brush around, it smears the grid.
Answer:
Your
IBM compatible computer is probably a fast machine, and you need
to turn acceleration down. This is in the Control Panels in the
Graphics Performance area. What is happening, is that the computer
is trying to do things at a faster rate than the video driver can
deal with. Turning acceleration down should fix your problems.
Tip
Microsoft's generic SVGA drivers solve a lot video driver problems
for many software applications. These can typically be found on
various commercial online providers (CompuServe, AOL, etc.) and
on Microsoft's Web Site.
